Carolina Compass 2023

Start the year off right by joining Carolina Adventures on our 6.5 day outdoor orientation program! Known as Carolina Compass, this program gives incoming students the opportunity to challenge themselves and grow as individuals through the process of experiential education. Research has found outdoor orientation programs to be a crucial factor in developing support systems early on that lead to student success.

You’ll make new friends, learn valuable, transferrable skills that will help you with your first year at UNC, and get to experience several outdoor activities in areas that make North Carolina so great! The activities included on this year’s trip include backpacking and Canoeing. This trip is a great introduction to the Outdoors and what it means to be a student here at UNC! A scholarship that covers up to 50% of trip fees is available on a needs basis.

This trip starts at 1pm on August 13th and will wrap up by 6pm on August 19th.

There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting the week before the trip to go over logistics, packing lists, and introducing trip leaders. Two weeks from the trip, your Trip Leaders will send more information about the trip and when and where the meeting will be held

To register or for more information about the trips or scholarship opportunities, please email the Expeditions Coordinator (expeditions@unc.edu) with your name, email address, and the names and ages of the participants you wish to register. Trip fee covers all food, lodging, gear, and transportation.
