Campus Recreation enjoys a unique dual reporting relationship with the Department of Exercise and Sport Science (EXSS)–a connection to its rich history and commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle–and the Division of Student Affairs–representing the Carolina spirit of student development and living outside the classroom.

Campus Recreation inspires all Tar Heels to have fun, stay active, grow, and play together.

Who We Do It For
Every student receives an automatic recreation membership through enrollment and payment of mandatory student fees, at the cost of $105/year. Student membership is effective only during currently enrolled semesters. There are NO additional charges to use all facilities and equipment, play intramural sports, take fitness classes, and take part in some sport clubs. There are extra charges for going on an expedition, doing a challenge course, becoming belay certified to climb, certain specialty fitness classes or being involved in most sport clubs.
Rec memberships are open to UNC employees including Faculty (EPA), Staff (SPA), Retirees, UNC Hospital Employees, Carolina Dining Employees, Post-Doctoral Fellows & Visiting Scholars at a yearly or semester-long fee. (see the Membership Page for more details)
The spouse or domestic partner and dependents of any of the above are also able to acquire a Campus Rec membership at a yearly or semester-long fee. (see the Membership Page for more details)
