Combined, the Fetzer and RAMS climbing walls offer over 5,000 square feet of indoor climbing!

The Fetzer Hall C Wall rises 30 feet from the floor and contains over 2,100 square feet of textured wall. In addition, summer 2010 saw the construction of the long awaited bouldering section to the Fetzer Climbing Wall. The wall has also been extended out of the cave, providing even more challenging, steep climbing.

The Rams Head Climbing Wall provides an additional 2,400 square feet of new and exciting climbing terrain. To use the walls, climbers must first become Carolina Belay Certified. There is no loose chalk. Chalk balls only.

Climbers may also purchase a climbing equipment card and enjoy unlimited use of equipment at the wall for the entire school year.

Please note the following:

  • We are not responsible for lost, left or stolen items.
  • We do not provide chalk for personal chalk bags.
  • We do not provide tape for fingers.
  • We DO provide basic first aid materials.

New at both walls - Tru Blue, our  very own personal  automatic belay device.  Just clip the webbing to your harness and off you go.  There is a TruBlue Auto Belay at each wall.

Using the TruBlue Auto Belay:

~ Check to make sure your harness has been properly put on – double back harness straps.

~ Unclip self-closing, self locking carabiner from bolt on wall.  Do not let go of carabiner!!!!

~ Check Auto Belay operation by pulling out a short section and allowing it to retract.

~ If Auto Belay line fails to retract during climbing STOP climbing immediately and request   assistance.

~ Clip self locking caribiner to your harness.

~ Check the carabiner from the auto Belay line is connected to the designated loop on the climbing harness and the gate is properly closed.

~ Ensure the carabiner latch gate is facing away from the climber.

~ Never climb alongside or above the Auto Belay.

~ Never start descent from above the Auto Belay.

~ Climb On!

~ Descent may seem quick at first until weight is taken by Auto Belay
