Intro to Outdoor Climbing: Pilot Mountain
The quartzite cliffs of Pilot Mountain provide the perfect introduction to outdoor top-rope climbing. Your team will learn knots, belaying, climbing technique and climbing risk management. The Saura, a Native American tribe of the North Carolina Piedmont region, knew the mountain as Jomeokee, or the “Great Guide.” The 2,421-foot quartzite crystal manadnock marks a point of uplift from a seafloor that existed roughly 600 million years ago.
