Carolina Adventures’ Outdoor Leadership Series (OLS) Basecamp will give you a glimpse of what it is like to work for our programs. This weekend will give you a working knowledge of the practical and conceptual components of Experiential Education. OLS is the main way in which we recruit new staff for our Challenge Course and Expedition programs.

Program Outline: Friday evening will consist of introductions, Q&A with current staff and dinner. Saturday we will go through a Challenge Course Participant Day, building our own group cohesion and leadership skills. Sunday, we will further reflect on that experience using workshops focusing on the methodologies and theories of Experiential Education. Friday evening will be from 6-9pm. Saturday and Sunday will both be from 9-5pm.

After the Basecamp experience, you will have an opportunity to submit a letter of interest to the Challenge Course and/or the Expedition program to become staff. Those who are accepted into Challenge Course Facilitation Series of trainings will begin their apprenticeship for the Challenge Course program over Spring Break (3/17-18) and beyond. The apprenticeship gives new staff the opportunity to experiment with the Facilitator role, without being primarily responsible for the program. Once Apprentices are comfortable and have demonstrated a minimum level of competency, they become paid Assistant Facilitators.

The Outdoor Leadership Expedition (also conducted over Spring Break: 3/10-15) will consist of individuals interested in the next step of training in order to become an Apprentice for the Expedition program. There are limited job openings for both programs. We look for a mixture of experience, passion, teach-ability, leadership, team spirit, and grit. If you have any questions please email
