2011 Ramses Recycles Information:

Ramses Recycles is broad-based effort to reduce waste and improve recycling at Carolina Athletic events.  Rameses Recycles aims to:

  • Reduce the amount of waste produced and landfilled during sporting events
  • Enhance the game day experience
  • Fulfill University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's commitment to sustainability (economic, environmental, and social)
  • Recycling education to all attendees and Carolina fans

For the 2011 home games, UNC Sport Club athletes visited high-traffic campus tailgating lots to provide color-coded bags for recycling and trash.  Fans were be able to ensure all their materials are properly disposed by simply separating their waste and leaving their bags in their tailgate lot or deck recycling zone.

In the 2011 EPA Game Day challenge, UNC-Chapel Hill was first place in the ACC schools in Waste Minimization and Organics Reduction categories.

In 2010, UNC-Chapel Hill recycled 33% of its waste on game days, largely because of volunteer efforts.  In addition, UNC-Chapel Hill won a Carolina Recycling Association Spotlight Award for its work on the Game Day Challenge, where 40% of waste was diverted from the landfill.
