Group Fitness Classes

Join in on the fun with group fitness classes! UNC Campus Recreation offers more than 90 classes each week to meet your fitness needs. With over 25 different class formats, there is something for everyone! For class descriptions, click on the class in the schedule below.

All levels are welcome in group fitness classes. Each class it taught by a certified group fitness instructor who has experience offering modifications to help you work at an intensity appropriate for your fitness abilities and goals.

Private Group Fitness Classes

Private fitness classes are perfect for groups of individuals looking to exercise in a fun, welcoming, and motivating environment. Choose from many of our fitness classes, including yoga, Zumba, cycle, water aerobics, and more! Classes are offered based on instructor/facility availability and a fee applies.

Spring Schedule (January 17th – April 27th)

**Mind Body classes (barre, yoga, Pilates, tai chi, and sculpt) after 9 AM will be held in the Rams Head Recreation Center multi-purpose room (with the exception of 12:15 PM Pilates)

Check out new class formats Step N Tone, Insanity, Sculpt, and Doonya!

  • Doonya: A Bollywood-inspired fitness dance class that follows cardio and conditioning intervals! With varying levels of intensity and fun music, this workout will have you feeling invigorated and happy for the rest of the day.
  • Insanity: Insanity is a cardio-based total body conditioning program based on the principles of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).   Paired with motivating music, Intensity challenges cardiovascular and strength endurance, taking your fitness to new heights.  This training program takes into consideration the special needs of group-exercise participants by providing a variety of modifications for all fitness levels.
  • Step N Tone: Love step aerobics, but need to add strength training into your routine?  This class combines basic step movements with toning exercises, designed to build both strength and endurance!
  • Sculpt: This is a mind body, strength-based, fitness fusion class. We combine the muscle-sculpting, core-strengthening benefits of Pilates and barre with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga for an action-packed class. We crank up the speed of this class for a full body, entertaining, conditioning workout!

Class Sign Ups

Most Group Fitness classes are drop-in classes and do not require sign ups. Cycle does have a sign up process. See the Group Fitness policies to learn more.
