Equestrian

The Equestrian Team of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNCET) promotes interest in horsemanship and teamwork through weekly riding lessons, fundraising, social events, and informational meetings and competes in Zone 4, Region 3, of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. We show against Duke, NC State, Elon, Campbell, UNCW, ECU, St. Andrews, and UNC Charlotte at competitions in the fall and spring held at the various schools. UNCET is open to riders of all levels through a tryout process. As a team, we focus on hunt seat and equitation, though all disciplines are welcome.

Fundraising/dues:

  • Annual dues are $1,000 ($500 per semester) which cover most costs (lessons, entry fees, coaching fees, etc).
  • There are additional costs for things such as IHSA and NCHJA memberships, merchandise, gas for your lesson driver, senior gifts, etc., totaling less than $100 per year.

Practice Days & Times: Arranged on student schedules (1 hour lessons/practice per week)

Practice Location: Oak Hill Hunter Jumpers (2929 Dick Holeman Road, Timberlake, NC 27583)

Competitive Season: Fall/Spring

Competition Level: National

National Governing Body: Intercollegiate Horse Show Association

Recent Accomplishments:

  • 7 riders qualified in different divisions for regionals; all competed and one moved on to zones

  • Earned reserve high point team at our home hosted show

  • Finished tied for 3rd in the region out of 9 regional teams

  • Developed partnership with NC’s state 4H show program

  • Raised 3-5K through new fundraising relationship with 4H program
