1. What is Intramural Sports?
Intramural Sports at UNC is composed of team, individual and dual sports that are designed to provide organized recreational participation for everyone! The Intramural staff strives to provide a safe environment, which fosters sportsmanship and maximum participation.
2. Who can play?
Intramural sports are open to all regularly enrolled students, faculty, and staff members of UNC. A valid UNC One Card is required for activity participation and access to all recreational facilities. Complete eligibility requirements can be found at http://campusrec.unc.edu/eligibility.html
3. Do I have to pay to play?
There is no charge to participate but there are some activities which may include an additional fee such as shoes for bowling or green fees for golf. The only time that you would have to pay if you are the team captain and your team defaults two games or forfeits a game or if your are competing as an individual and default two games or forfeit a game. 4. Can I play on more than one team?
All persons may participate on one team only and within one league per activity.
Exceptions:
1. A participant may participate in a co-rec league and only one other gender specific league.
2. Participants may compete in the singles, doubles and co-rec league in the same activity.
5. What are Ringers?
A Ringer is defined as an otherwise eligible participant with certain playing restrictions as a result of having benefited from advanced training and coaching opportunities in the same or related Intramural sport. All ringers must compete in the competitive league. Ringers are current or former Sport Club Members, former members of a Varsity or Junior Varsity team, or former professional player.
6. How do I register a team?
To register a team (and guarantee your team a place in the league) a team representative must provide a team name and the team captain’s contact information during the registration period identified for the sport. Sport registration must be submitted online at http://unc.imtrackonline.com via the Campus Recreation website. If necessary, attend the mandatory pre-season and playoffs captains' meeting.
7. How do I register for individual/doubles sport?
To register for an individual/doubles sport an individual or partner must provide a team name (individuals name and/or partners name) and contact information during the registration period identified for the sport. Sport registration must be submitted online at http://unc.imtrackonline.com via the Campus Recreation website.
8. How do I join a team?
If you don’t have a partner or enough players to form a team? Submit a “free agent” form at http://unc.imtrackonline.com and the Campus Recreation staff will make your name available to other participants.
9. What are defaults?
As a courtesy to their opponents and to avoid being charged with a forfeit, teams may request a default for games that they will be unable to attend. All defaults must be made known to the Campus Recreation office at least two hours before the scheduled contest.
10. What are forfeits?
Game time is forfeit time. There will be no grace periods. If a team and/or contestant fails to appear at the scheduled contest site by the exact time schedule, the Intramural Sports Staff member my delay declaring a forfeit, depending on special circumstances. When a team and/or individual forfeits a scheduled contest, not only is the opponent unfairly inconvenienced, Intramural Sports staff members need to be paid as well, valuable playing time and facility space is wasted. If a team and/or individual forfeits during the regular season or playoffs, they must pay a forfeit fine within two business days of the forfeit. If the forfeit fine is not paid within two business days then the team captain’s student account will be charged and the team will be dropped from the activity.
11. What about inclement weather?
The Campus Recreation staff makes decisions concerning the postponement or cancellation of games due to inclement weather at 3:00 p.m. Participants should call 843.7529 after 3:00 p.m. for this information; teams should not assume that games will be cancelled simply because of rain. Normally, games will be rescheduled or cancelled within 24 hours. Teams should check the Campus Recreation website to confirm their schedule after all inclement weather situations.
12. What about cancelled games?
Games that are cancelled due to inclement weather will not keep a team from qualifying for the playoffs. Teams are responsible for checking their schedules to determine if the games have been or will be rescheduled.
13 . How do I get assistance from Intramural Sports?
Participants, Faculty, and Staff may call 843-4770 or come by the Student Recreation Center Room 101 weekdays between 9:00am and 6:00pm for assistance in rescheduling games, checking posted results or any other inquiries regarding Intramural Sports. Participants not wishing to speak with anyone may email intramural_sports@unc.edu for information and assistance; responses should be within 24 hours unless it is Saturday or Sunday.
