Climbing Wall - Belay Certification

Recertifications

Fee - $15

Certification is good for ONE SCHOOL YEAR!
All returning climbers must sign up for a recertification class before using the wall for the new school year. You must be able to show skills as listed for experienced climbers.

Please pre-register in 101 Student Recreation Center and bring last year's belay card with you to the wall. For additional information, please contact Mike Lyons.

Belay Test (for experienced climbers)

Fee - $20 (pro-rated after January: $10)
When - Every Monday at 6pm
(Pre-registration in 101 Student Recreation Center)

For persons with previous climbing experience who can competently:

1. Identify a variety of climbing equipment
2. Put on a harness
3. Connect a belay device and rope to their harness
4. Tie a figure eight follow through and a barrel knot back up
5. Verbalize belay commands and establish a belay contract with a climber
6. Belay
7. Catch an announced and unannounced fall
8. Lower a climber off the wall

Those Who Have Never Climbed

Fee - $30 (pro-rated after January: $15)
When - Every Tuesday, 6-8pm (Pre-registration is required)

For persons with no previous climbing experience a 2-hour class will be offered introducing you to all the necessary skills needed to safely enjoy using the wall.

All preregistration and payment for equipment must take place at the Campus Recreation Office in 101 Student Recreation Center before you take the class. Receipts will be collected before classes begin. Classes start promptly at 6:00pm.
